Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I keep my StoveTop FireStop working?
A: The StoveTop FireStop products do not require any maintenance, inspections, or repairs during their five-year life. In the event of grease build up, gently clean off grease using a damp cloth.
Q: What if StoveTop FireStop activates while I'm cooking?
A: You do not have to worry about false activations from normal cooking heat or smoke. StoveTop FireStop will only open when flames touch the underside of the device.
Q: Will this product work for other applications such as putting out chimney fires, Christmas tree fires, or automoblile engine fires?
A: No. StoveTop FireStop is strictly designed and tested for small residential stovetop fires.
Q: I've never heard of StoveTop FireStop. Is it a proven product?
A: Yes, in fact, StoveTop FireStop, formerly known as the Range Queen, is America's leading automatic stovetop fire suppressor. For over 30 years, StoveTop FireStop has been succesfully putting out small grease fires. An independent Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) has tested StoveTop FireStop, and fire departments across the U.S. recommend its use.
Q: I don't like the appearance of StoveTop FireStop over my stove; won't it look funny?
A: The design of a traditional vent hood will usually hide (from across a room) properly installed StoveTop FireStop Venthood units. The StoveTop FireStop Microhood will be visible from the front of the micro hood. This design enables the powder to reach the front burners. However, the Microhood's low-profile design should blend in with typical kitchen appliance color schemes.
Q: I already have a sprinkler system; why would I want StoveTop FireStop?
A: The StoveTop FireStop is an important supplement to sprinklers, which also effectively suppress fires, but may cause significant water damage. StoveTop FireStop can suppress a stovetop fire before it spreads, preventing larger fires and extensive damage or activation of sprinkler systems.
Q: How can I attach the standard StoveTop FireStop Venthood product with the magnets if I don't have a typical steel vent hood over my stove?
A: If magnets will not adhere to the vent unit above the stovetop, but the distance between the stovetop and vent hood is within the specified range of 24-32 inches, you can install StoveTop FireStop with a free alternative washer fastener kit available upon request.
Q: I don't have a wall behind the stove to install the Microhood units. What do I do?
A: At this time we do not have an alternative fastening method to the StoveTop FireStop Microhood. We are soliciting feedback from prospective customers, and expect to offer an alternative in the future.
Q: How do I know whether my StoveTop FireStop units have expired?
A: Each StoveTop FireStop is imprinted with the month and year it will expire. Once expired, each StoveTop FireStop unit should be replaced. Each has a five-year effective life.
